A GRADE WHITE SEASON 2023/24 REPORT

The A Grade Whites had a hugely successful 2023/24 season. This squad was put together with much deliberation to ensure balance and provide two competitive A Grade Berowra teams. The Whites core group of players remained similar to previous years in A2s, with the addition of returning Berowra Juniors Ben Knox and Liahm Williams.

With this relatively young squad, a large focus early was placed on the areas of the game that we could control particularly in the field and with the ball. This worked successfully as we found ourselves bowling first often and chasing low totals in the first few games of the season. Special mention to Richard J (Maroons) for his 105* to get us over the line in Round 3.

Although the skippa couldn’t win a toss to help the lads out, we had a very successful run and rolled into the Christmas break undefeated and in a great position to be in contention come March.

After the New Year and the extended break (thanks to a bye), the boys got straight back into the groove with a couple of convincing wins and with our only loss of the regular season against the Maroons in Round 12.

This found us tied at the top of the table going into Round 14 needing a dominated outright win. After rolling Kenthurst for 58 and 26 and chasing them 1 down, we managed to secure the Minor Premiership.

This found us up against Hornsby in the Semi-Fina and although we didn’t play our best cricket, we managed to stay in the game and got the draw to send us to the big dance against the Maroons. Unfortunately, we were outclassed on the day and a lack of experience in the big games let us down, and were unable to get the job done.

This season and its success for the Whites came from a real team effort across the board. Several individuals stepped up with the bat when it was required and we embodied fielding and bowling as a team, applying pressure and squeezing the opposition out of the game.

Overall this was an extremely successful season for this young squad where we really made our mark as a quality, competitive A Grade side and we can't wait to do it all again next year.
