The end of the season has arrived for the Berowra C4 Crew, and what a season it was. We have had some thrilling matches which included 2 Outright wins, a nail-biting finish, and some unforgettable individual performances!
Our Team started the Preseason by taking out the 4th Grade T20 competition, and this gave us the belief that we could go one better this year! The 2023/24 season saw us walk away with 11 wins in total, winning some key matches and showcasing our skills as an all round team with both the Bat and Ball. Our top-order batsmen put up impressive scores, and our bowlers were able to take crucial wickets at crucial moments.
With so many highlights in the season, it’s hard to give just one but Chris Lea and Eamonn Byrne turned up the Batting during the back half of the season. These two on multiple occasions single handedly guided us to wins not just with the Bat but taking wickets along the way! Young Benny was a work horse with the Ball this season. Whenever he was thrown the ball, he did damage with his crazy late outswingers. Steppa was consistent thru the season but his 71 from 35 balls against the Lions (incl 6 x 4’s and 7 x 6’s) was a sight to see. Sexy Martin, with his dispensation, did everything required in the season. Limited to only 35 runs and 8 overs per innings, Sax was his chipper self by encouraging everyone in the team… well except Eamon. Steve “Dell” Wall was thrown the gloves early in the season and made an impact straight away (distracting the opposition batsman by never shutting up). We all had a bit of a laugh when Raiff leapt like a Gazelle trying to catch the ball like an AFL player or Wrighty diving around the pitch like a Goal Keeper making sure the ball didn’t get past him. Last but not least, Possy and Cam with their 18 and 14 runs during the GF which kept us in the game for a little bit longer while the chips were down.
However, there were also instances where we struggled to perform to our full potential. We faced tough competition from other teams, and our inconsistency in certain areas cost us some important games. It's clear that there are areas we need to focus on and improve upon for the next season.
We had some early injuries with Ang D’Cruz (Quad) and Fred O’Connor (Bicep) - both didn’t finish the season. And one other that left us (again) to move back to Melbourne in David Hook. This then meant that we needed to include some fresh new faces to our C4 crew! Thanks to Angus Hunt, Glen Foster, Vahistad Patel for joining us during the season. Thanks also to Jarrod Barton, Zac Gordon and Joy Bedarkar for making up numbers when we were short!
We have also seen some promising young talent emerge this season, with James Fordham, Archie Robinson, Joshua Passafaro, Patrick Moody, Oliver Hunt, Liam Hunt and Matthew Clayton stepping up and making significant contributions to the team. It is exciting to see the future potential of these boys and the depth of talent that Berowra Cricket Club have at our disposal.
As we reflect on the season, we can be proud of our achievements and the progress we have made as a team. We have grown stronger and more united, both on and off the field. The camaraderie and spirit within the team have been exceptional, and it is this bond that has helped us achieve success this season.
The end of the season may be bittersweet, but it marks the beginning of a new chapter for our team. We will regroup, set new goals, and come back stronger and more determined next year. Thank you to all the players, supporters, and everyone in the wider club community for making this season a memorable one. We are proud to be part of this club, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for us. Here's to another successful season of cricket!
